Have many stations had success in trying to sell DJs slots?  For instance if a collection of people had a SHOUTcast stream they pay so much per hour they use it so that the costs are fairer?

I haven't. You even mention money and most leave. I use donations and that works pretty well.

Do you get most of your donations from your DJs/listeners?

Selling DJ slots would only be lucrative if you had a huge listener base, and DJs would want to pay you/share costs. Else getting relevant adverts would be the best way to go, if at all possible.
